V.P Finance
The Vice President of Finance directs and oversees the financial activities of both Canadian and American operations for the company in accordance with governing laws, rules, and regulations. The VP provides financial expertise and insights to aid the Executive Management team in Strategy planning, budgeting, forecasting, and operational financial management activities.
Location; Greater Burlington area
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess and evaluate the financial performance of the organization regarding long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts and provide insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of organization.
Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion.
Collaborate with Executive Management team to develop short term and long-term plans, projections and budgets. Select and engage consultants, auditors, and investors.
Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models. Implement policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by senior leadership team.
Develop and maintain monthly and annual operating budgets
Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports including monthly profit and loss, forecast vs. budget and cash flow and provide recommendations as required.
Responsible for the processing of accurate and timely payroll in addition to employee deductions, government remittances, Record of Employment and T4 preparation and submission.
Ensure the proper functioning of financial systems, databases and software by the regular maintenance and backup of all accounting systems.
Maintain (SBA) Small Business Financing Program Prepare financial reports to customers as required
Manage legal, terms and conditions and overall risks to the organization
Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, legal compliance and financial procedures.
Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data required for funding and grants
Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state/provincial, and federal tax returns.
Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems.
Hire, develop and manage accounting staff
Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits.
Manage cash flow planning process and ensure funds availability Oversee cash, investments and management of company assets
Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks. Maintain excellent banking relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners.
Set up new customer and vendor accounts within the accounting system
Oversee weekly cash management and AP Department, approve large payables, sign checks, authorize wires.
Prepare invoices, track Accounts Receivable payments and provide guidance relating to the collection process Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, intracompany transactions.
Education and Experience:
At least 10 years of experience in accounting or finance.
At least 5 years in a management role.
Master’s degree in business administration and/or professional accreditation such as Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
Strong working knowledge of both Canadian and American financial regulations and standards.
Excellent management and supervisory skills.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to understand long-range economic trends and project their impact on future company growth.
